Get ready for an exciting journey as we dive into the world of swimming and celebrate a remarkable athlete's commitment! Benedetta Boscaro, a rising star from Italy, has made a verbal commitment to join Virginia Tech's swim team in 2027. This is a dream come true for many, and we're thrilled to share the story behind it.
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, our proud sponsor, understands the dedication and passion behind these commitments. They honor not only the athletes but also the support systems that help them reach these milestones.
And here's where it gets exciting: Benedetta Boscaro, an Italian swimmer with an impressive international resume, has chosen Virginia Tech as her academic and athletic home. Boscaro, who swims for Team Veneto, represented Italy at the European Junior Championships this past summer. Her performance was exceptional, finishing 5th in the 100 backstroke with a personal best time of 1:01.42. She also brought home a gold medal in the girls' 4x100 medley relay, leading off with a strong 1:01.98.
But her achievements didn't stop there. Boscaro competed at the World Junior Championships in Romania, where she placed 19th in the 100 back and 22nd in the 200 back. These results showcase her versatility and potential as a swimmer.
Now, let's talk numbers: Boscaro's best times in the 100 back and 200 back are impressive, with a lifetime best of 1:01.42 in the 100 back and a swift 2:15.74 in the 200 back. These times, when converted to the SCY format, are equally impressive, with a 54.25 in the 100 back and a 2:00.12 in the 200 back.
Virginia Tech's women's swim team, led by Carmen Weiler Sastre, finished 9th at the 2025 ACC Championships. Weiler Sastre, who represents Spain internationally, scored an impressive 69 individual points and made the 'A' final in both backstroke events. Boscaro's arrival in 2027 will create a new dynamic, as she won't overlap with Weiler Sastre, who is currently a senior with the Hokies.
And this is the part most people miss: Boscaro will be joining a talented class of 2031, including Jillian Wiersema, Claire Roussakis, and Margot Levesque. This incoming class promises to bring fresh energy and talent to the team.
So, what do you think about Boscaro's commitment to Virginia Tech? Is this a move that excites you, or do you have a different take on it? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below. We'd love to hear your perspective and spark a discussion about this exciting development in the world of collegiate swimming!
